I heard someone talking about lockers on a disco II. I heard that you can do something in the trasmission and this will enable lockers and disable the traccion control. Anybody have any info on this? Thanks,
Gus.

Gus,

I to have been researching this as well. There has been much discussion about what you can or cannot do to a D2 and what locker is good, bad, best, or whatever.

Depending on the year of your D2, you can engage your CDL via a vertical stud on the T-case. If you engage the CDL stud with the engine running, you will have CDL / ETC / ABS all working together. If you turn the motor off, ETC / ABS becomes deactivated. Technically you are now a D1 with a bigger arse. :-)

Now there are many combinations out there and hopefully Frank Rafka and Greg Davis will chime in.

Different popular options include:

#1 Front and Rear TT's

#2 Detroit in the rear and TT up front

#3 Detroit in the rear and ARB in the front.

#4 just a Detroit in the rear.

After you check out: https://www.expeditionexchange.com/tractech/

Another interesting read is a current thread in this tech section:

Gus,

if you are talking stock D2, then yes the transfer case (not the transmission) has a central differential locker (CDL) in it and up to mid 2001 they have a stud that you can attach various devices ranging from $2 to $600.

Paul is spot on there - if you turn on the engine while its engaged, you loose etc and abs. But you can attach a sensor interruptor which you can switch off momentarily while you start the engine, and this saves you having to disengage first.

With the CDL locked and etc, this is a great combination. The etc doesn't come on as often, but its there for those special moments. This set up will kick any D1's ass in a cross-axle situation.

Gus, what year DII do you have, and what are your plans for it?

That is getting to the heart of the issue Greg. Making value added additions to your truck, if you don't need lockers, don't buy them! After wheeling the snot out of my DII in the mud (joe_little can attest to that), I think the "best" set up for me would be a detroit or TT in the back with a retro-fitted DI CDL kit. I could go all out with ARB's everywhere or TT's all the way around, but I am not sure if I would really "need" all that. Gus, what do you really want to do with your truck?
