The black matting insulation under my hood has started to look a little worse for wear and I'd like to replace it with something cleaner. This stuff just absorbs water and gets soggy and sags. I was thinking about maybe really thick neoprene that I could cut to fit. Any suggestions? Anyone come up with something really bitchin? I'm not that interested in putting the same stuff back in there. Thanks and happy trails. |

Most have just taken it out completely. Seems to help lower the underhood temps a bit. Commercial grade neoprene would be incredibly heavy, and not hold up to the heat generated. If you really feel you want something - use one of the Dynamat products. They make some specifically for underhood apps. Bill |

Bill, Wouldn't taking it completely off have more heat towards the paint and make it "bubble" and eventually flake off? as a matter of fact, I've thought about this, and with my 2" BL, it may work...your thoughts? |

My hood insulation has been out for the past 4 years with no seeming affect on paint - but with that being said, I don't care much about my poor paint - LOL A number of friends have not had hood insualtion for the same amount of time with no ill effects. Bill |
