Tried Walmart but their machine can't duplicate the "ooh so special" Disco I key. Anyone had luck getting a duplicate from a shop other than the dealer? Thanks!

yep........go to www.roverconnection.com and order the genuine factory key, then take it to walmart, home depot, lowes, or just about anywhere they cut keys and have it cut. Ilco makes a key but it is just not as nice as the genuine piece and not much cheaper. Good Luck.

I saw a Rover blank at the local Ace Hardware. I don't know if others will have it, but it's worth a try if you only have to drive a few miles to find one.

BTW the particular store is Parkrose Hardware in Portland, OR.

I have gone to a lot of places and the only place that can do it is the dealer. It was $5 to get it done, including the pretty spare key. Every major hardwear store has nothing big enough.

Thanks all. Wife got an Ilco key done at a locksmith's. They can even do keys with transponders in them. Cost was $3.50. Key looks like the key for the Tercel we sold ages ago but it works fine.

I need a duplicate key for my 99 disco II and tried my local hardware store (no LR blanks). I called LR dealer was told key has transponder and would cost $120.00. Plus, the key only came with the remote and this price didn't include programming. I don't need another remote, just a duplicate key. Any suggestions?

Tamara - get one either from ebay or from roverconnection.com. They are like 9$ from last one.

Only issue you will get is that regular supermarket locksmith shops wont make it from your blank, but any real locksmith should do it.

Btw - am i only one who got TWO keys? One works fine for ignition and for gas cap compartment and another one for door locks? I got my rover used so i have no clue if its normal or not.

Thanks, I've seen the blanks on Ebay but will it work in the door and ignition? Btw - I bought mine used and it only had one key w/remote on the key.(operates door locks & ignition)

One key should work for all locks and ignition. That's the way for the used 1995 LWB, used 1995 DI, the leased from new 1997 DI and the also leased from new 2000 DII. In U.S., that is.

Thanks :-)

I guess they just screwed up in my case, since those two built from not-so-original blanks. Looks like i will try to get one done with original and see if it will do the trick (got two LR blanks stashed :-))
