There's Mantec,Safari, and Southdown. Are there any other mfgrs out there? Personal opinion: Mantec--I like the "mushroom" cap, the single cut hole, would look better if I owned a defender, dislike the amount of work involved to mount & the price. Safari-- I like the price, easier to install(?), dislike the exterior look. Southdown-- totally utilitarian look, esthetically ugly. So what else is out there? |

Silva Roca--very nice design, very modern!,too bad it's $$$, and fiberglass. I like the location of the pre-filter, but I wonder about the intake on the roof, will it interfere with roof rack placement? Any other mfgrs?

Personally i don't care for the Roca design, I just don't like the way it looks, and the fiberglass worry me. Otherwise, the routing off the air duct looks to be pretty much the same as the Mantec. The ARB goes through the inner fender (On D1) right next to the airbox, and requires you to relocate the airbox and cut a new hole in it. It does come with hardware for the relocation, but it's a royal pain in the ass to get it all to fit. If I were to do it over again on a D1, I would go with Mantec. On a D2, the ARB is easier to mount, since the air intake already goes through the inner fender. - Axel

TJM Airtec vs the ARB Safari. They look like the old industrial espionage/copycat deal.Very similar. I lean towards the ARB because it looks like 2 less 90 degree angles in the air intake. Maybe there's less air "resistance"? and better (faster) air flow? Anyway, thanks all for your help. Now, Santa are you listening? |

I like my Safari Snorkle because of the ease of the instalation but the biggest thing that I liked was the option of being able to turn the top either facing forward or twards the rear. Its a "controlable ram air" with the K&N filter system. I really dont like the look of my safari but it was preformence is what im looking for. Alex |

Just installed the Mantec on my D2 a few weekends ago. Takes about 3 hours. Great photo/directions from Dean Brown in the tech section to go by. Looks great, and is metal not plastic. Very clean look after. I checked them all out before hand, and to me, Mantec was the only way to go. Ultimatly, what you choose is up to your tastes/abilities/needs. Good Luck! |

Question to above authors. Will the Mantec "mushroom" air intake cap fit on the Safari pipe? Is it compatible diameter wise? Or lots of cutting etc. involved? Or will it look UGLY? |

Rupert, Safari has a similar one. If my memory is right, the Mantec mushroom is 2 1/4 in diameter, whereas the Safari is 3". You can get a 7" or 10" pre-filter from Safari. |
