hey all, I recently had a dead battery and replaced it with a new optima. well i noticed that now my turn signal lights no longer flash twice when engaging the alarm...the lights do flash when disengaging the alarm. anyone know or have any ideas as to what the problem could be? how do you reset the ecu for the alarm.....??? by the way the alarm still functions. |

Usually the lights not flashing is a sign that the battery in your keyfob is about to die. It's mentioned in the users manual. Rgrds. Joey |

Do your power locks still work? My 96 had a similar problem. The alarm started going nuts and then the central locks and alarm went out. I have checked most everything on mine, and have come to the conclusion that the alarm/lock ECU has gone bad. Mark |

James, any thoughts on what to do about this? I have called around to try and find a used ecu, but I have had minimal luck. I found a few out of 99 and newer, but I have no idea if they will work in a 96. I also would like to research this problem in the electrical troubleshooting manual, but I haven't gotten a hold of one of those yet. Mark |

Have you read your owners manual yet? Your symptom of no-blinking lights when armed is covered in the manual. That is your only stated issue, so why discuss ECUs? You are not resetting the ECU, you may have to resynch the keyfob, again, in your owners manual. Joey hit it on the head but your questions remain. What are we missing? |

One possibility is this: The two are unrelated, and just happened at the same time. The little metal tab thing underneath the lock button broke off in my key fob, causing just LOCK to not work. Unlock worked fine. Have you dismantled your key fob? Checked all the contacts? Sometimes the solder breaks. That very well could be the case. If you have a second fob, does it work properly? |

key fob works fine, just took it apart and its all good inside. its only a couple of months old. anyway Im going to try and reset the remote to see if that does anything. bruce-the manual says nothing about the symptoms im experiencing. its not a mislock due to doors being ajar, week battery, etc, etc. any other thoughts would be helpful. |

I just remembered one more thing, If your alarm arms corectly when you lock the drivers door with the key, then the problem is in the remote. But if the alarm doesn't, then you have a problem with the ECU, or some other malfunction in the truck. I don't know that you can "reset" the ECU. I have taken mine completely out, put it back in, and still nothing. Mark |
