Hey guys, I just had a quick question. I attended several weeks ago an event with the Land Rover Dublin dealership, and we drove in a lot of mud. Something I found out quickly is how terrible these stock Goodyear Wrangler HP's are in mud. However, when I was doing through some fairly deep mud, the 4ETC system kicked active and kept running for about 30 seconds while I was revving the engine at about 2500-3500rpms trying to keep moving. After about 20-30 seconds of traction control operation, it appeared to have turned itself off and even though I was varying the rpms between 2500-3500rpms to keep moving, the TC system never kicked back on. I know that the Disco's have 3 open differentials, so I have a hard time believing that all 4 wheels were rotating and spinning at the exact same speed. This was some really slick mud, and my tires had literally turned to slicks, but why did it appear that the 4ETC turned off? The TC light was off, so the TC system didn't overheat of anything like that either. Is it really possible for the Disco in a very low traction situation to really spin all 4 wheels at the same speed, even when you are varying the throttle? |

ETC uses the brakes and turns off to prevent the brakes from overheating... The better the tire the better the off road performance of two otherwise identical vehicles...

Chris, I always thought that when the ETC system fades out due to the brakes getting too hot, that the amber TC light stays lit till the brakes get cooled down enough again. Would 20-30 seconds of continuous use even get the brakes hot enough to fade out? |
