Ive noticed on 1997 V8 3.9 they have a tune resistor in inj loom.
This resistor is different for different markets, ie, cata, no cats,USA, Australia, Saudi etc.
1.Does anyone know exactly how it affects fuelling?
2.Can you adjust on car for different results?
3.Ive fitted headers, can I adj resistor to suit?

Thanks

No baz it just selects s different map. What you need to do is adjust the Airflow meter and timing(if you have a dissy) to maximise the performance. You need an exhaust gas anilizer check mixture or a Dyno tune done

OK
The resistor I have now is 180 ohms.
What difference would I get fitting a 470 ohm.
Surely the map is what is changed in aftermarket chips?

I guess what I would like to know is what differences are their in the maps?

The maps are designed for local conditions like fuel quality, temp, emission laws, height above sea level. I've Never tried to run a different one. All it will cost to find out is 30c for a resistor and a tweak of the air flow meter to get the mixture correct using an exhaust gas anilizer.
I know for sure if you run a map that is supposed to run closed loop with out lambda sensor they run really rich.
