i know there is no harness for an aftermarket cd player...that would made it too easy for us self installers. thank rover int. anyways, how do you go about putting in an aftermarket radio, i am no idiot when it comes to wiring, so if any of you guys could enlighten me to the proceedure(either running your own wire direct from the stock amp or splicing into the original harness, please let me know, im just in the dark as to what needs to be done to wire up the new head unit(also can you still use the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket unit???
i have a 99 disco 2 w/ harmon kardon system

thanks in advance,

chris

ok first of all you will lose the subs in the back door no biggy just install ur own sub box with amp it will sound better anyway. besides that the factory amp is in the passengers side kick panel it has to be bypassed. this is where i ran all my wires from my aftermarket too to connect them. it is easy just open the speakers up see what color the wires are and cut them from the amp and ta - da you got it. i have some wiring diagrams for older models if they are the same i don't know.

if done right, you will NOT lose the subs and you do NOT have to bypass the factory amps. but you will lose the use of steering wheel controls. i replace my factory radio with a Sony back in 1997, and recently replaced that with an Alpine.

danno,

i did it your way, but the damn radio stays on all the time, unless i unplug the wire directly connected to the batt. which wire color is the power wire and the remote wire, if you know.

thanks man,

Chris I just recently did this. Constant 12v power from the battery is purple(for memory saving / clock), and the orange/green stripped was the accessory on, which is what actually turns it on.

Black is ground. Other than that, I didnt use any other wires, I ran completly new speaker wires from the new speakers I bought, up through the dash and out the radio "hole". The dash kit that came with the Panasonic CD player fit perfectly into the dash, and took about 5 minutes to install after the wiring was done.

Let me know if you run into any other problems
