Okay....all you Disco1 experts. I need your help as to why my D1 starts to vibrate when I try and accelerate to about 100km/hr. City driving is fine. It's most evident when cold or going uphill. It almost seems like it can't shift to a higher gear. I need to take my foot of the gas pedlea few times before eventually normal high speed operation. I thought it might be the transmission but now not sure. The vibration is very evident at the steering wheel.

Any ideas what this may be????

...Bob.

Hi Bob,

Mine, 93D1 Auto did the same. City driving ok. Anything above 80km/hr won't rev past 2000rpm and shaking like hell.Feels like 'Phantom 5th gear' ie selecting a gear too high.Tore my hair out for weeks trying to narrow it down to either ignition, transmission, Ujs, shaft or fuel etc. Checked and changed leads, plugs, air, oil and fuel filters, dizzy cap & rotor. Balanced tyres, greased shafts, checked swivel pre-load still no change.

I normally shift my Hi-Low to N parking in town. Added security! Finally, one day after a night out in town, I shift back to Hi and went on my merry way on the motorway 100 - 120 km/hr, sweetest drive in weeks. No shaking and missing. My guess is my transfer box not meshed properly and but it did that night. Can't be sure yet coz I have been fiddling with the alternator, coil, dizzy, fuel cap and TPS & throttle cable. Some say it's VSS ( do a search, you will find similar symptoms). Have not shake like before since then. Someone here might explain what happens if the transfer box is not locked/meshed properly.Hope you figure yours out and let us know coz mine might play up again!

Cheers,
Gil

gilbert urs might be the vss only because i noticed the same thing acting up when i shifted from low to high in the locker and yes sometimes it went away for a while but it will come back and then with a vengence never going away and leaving you with only 10 mph to go past before cutting out. what are your true symptoms and i will try to help.

Thanks John. Still a slight tremble hitting 80km/hr and seems to smooth out at approx 100km/hr
Before replacing the vss cleaning it first is on top of my list to do with afew others like my drive belt is a bit sloppy, leaky swivel, broken rear washer, ac/heater control lights gone and the list goes on.....!
