does anyone have trouble getting there passengers side view mirror to see the part of the road that i think it should see or is this a bad design by land rover for a 97 disco. it does seem to tilt in far enough. all i can see is the guard rails out of the thing but it seems to be tilting pretty far.

The head itself is adjustable. It has three positions. Folded all the way in. Position 1 and Position 2. Try 1 or 2 and adjust the mirror to your specs.

There are two positions for the mirror casing (I am not talking about the mirror it self, but the black part that holds it). One that is flush with the part that is hard mounted on the door, and the other position is pulled in one click. Your driver side should be the flush one, and the passenger should be pulled in one click. You have to do it with your hands obviously. This is so they can position the driver seat on either side of the vehicle without having that much electronic adjustment in the mirror. I hear they started to sell a few Rovers in England :-).

Or you can adjust your seating position so that you have a Zen-like balance between comfort and ability to see out of the passenger mirror.

Or you can be like a guy I was wheeling with who scraped his passenger mirror off on a tree.

andy i understand that this must be the correct way but you have to agree its a bad design for the money you pay why not just make them right

you just need to get fatter thats it :-) then it stops to lean.

As of mirrors - i just used brute force to make them angles properly. Forget all that power mirror crap... I seriously spoiled by big side mirrors on XTerra, so i am considering just replacing side mirrors with something like Defender mirrors - they are bigger and nicer.

Understand that your vehicle has been sold around the world, with left and right hand drive. From a manufacturing standpoint, make them all the same and have the customer tilt it to their preference, ld or rd. It is annoying, but hey, it adds to the quirkiness like everything else (leaks, flapping hood at speed, lean etc.)

You mean yours can go fast enough to flap the hood :-)

Anyone remember the mid 90's Audis and Benzes that had dinky passenger side mirrors? Now that is a dumb idea. Did you seriously say you were "spoiled by an Xterra?" Talk about a vehilce full of original ideas, stadium seating, raised rear roof.........surprised there are no alpine windows. Nah, just playing, those are hard to beat when it comes to no maintenance/hassle motoring.

This is not a bad design! What is the problem here? If you are towing, you should have it in position two. If driving, position one. MANY MANY MANY cars have this design. John, if you have this big of a problem with just mirrors, maybe LR wasn't meant for you!

You sound very whiny John, maybe you should drive a Yugo or something.....sheesh....I can't believe that because YOU can't figure out how the mirrors work and EVERYONE else can, that it is a bad design?

Just wait til John Lee sees this thread....your hemeroids will be burning!!!

I fixed the flapping hood by putting on 235/85's last weekend. Come to think of it, it did only happen coming down from the mountains:-)

The steering column only moves a teensy tiny bit. The Discovery doesn't accomodate taller drivers very well.

The d2 is better than the D1 for taller drivers because the liner along the top of the winshield is raised higher in the D2.

I can't say anything about the tilt wheel in my D2, I set it 4 years ago and forgot I can change it.....I guess I am used to it.
