I bought a 2003 Discovery S. It does not have the heated seat option. Does anyone know if it is prewired for heated seats? I read on disco2.com that older model discoveries that were not purchased with the heated seat option were prewired for heated seats. All they needed was the switch. Is this true of the 2003 Discovery S? |

Justin, I too have read that article , and to my knowledge it is only in Disco's with leather from the factory. Someone can take the ball from here ... I have an SE but live in FL so haven't looked to see if mine is prewired. On a weird note: the left side of the dash where the fog lights are, the bottom blank is prewired for the rear park assist ... an incredible Off Road option ....NOT! -Jim |

Leather seats have the heaters in already, cloth dont. Easy to tell, look under the seat and you should have a brown connector hanging down from a black insulator with a red and black wire inside. Its maybe plugged in to its matching brown connector under the seat or not. Switch wiring is there allready, switches just need plugging in Just added heated seats to mine. Cost me $150 for the 4 heater pads, the 2 switches and the facing plate. Warm bum is nice on the cold mornings. The heaters for the leather and cloth seats have different part numbers as the cloth pads have a thermister built in to control temperature, the Leathers have a different sensor A good mod for the UK (not so sure in Florida though, seat chillers maybe??) |

Stephen, I have vinyl seats, I think. I'm sure they're not cloth. You think I still have heating pads in my seats and all I need to install are the switches? Thanks JRS |

Only way to tell is to look under the seat and see if you have the wire coming out. It has a big brown connector on it (approx 1" by 1/2"). (2 wires (black and red) inside a black protective sleeve). Normally comes out the back but could be anywhere Also if they are like the LR heaters pads I fitted, if you feel at the back of the seat between the base cushion and the back upright, you should feel a bump where the elements are join to the wires. Just where all the junk and loose change jams!! Didn't know you could get vinyl in a disco, they are cloth or leather here in the UK. Have seen a half leather as well. Chances are if you have electric seats you already have the heater pads in them If you fit them yourself allow 2 hours for the first seat and 1 hour for the second, plus 5 mins for the switches |

The heater pads are the foam inserts that actually have the wire heating elements inside them. If you dont have them fitted you can buy them from LR, whip off the seat covers, put the pads in (they have double sided on them, and refit the covers, viola!!! hot bum They are wired in serial from a 12v source to earth so even if the wiring wasn't in place it would be really easy to fit them |
