I was pulling a heavy load in my D1 and it started running hot but not loosing any water. I'd pulled over and let it cool for a while. After a while the temp would level off and I could drive a some more miles before it shot up again. I was trying to limp back to civilization before all hell broke lose and hoses started busting etc, etc. I assume my initial problem was a stuck thermostat which I should of yanked out. I'm now stuck with a warped head new valve job. The rig is stuck in a small town far away getting the work done. Anything you recommend in getting new heads in what else I should replace or look out for since the it's all turn apart? Do you agree with my initial analysis or should I be looking for something else for the initial cause of the problem? I'm looking at $1,500.00 for new valve job, heads, hoses, etc.

i just did heads and gaskets on a 3.9 because it over heated due to a bad viscous coupler( fan clutch) i also found that the condensor fans were bad as well and i understand they help to cool the engine when the temp hits a magic number. so look for both of those. the price sounds reasonable for the amount of work to be done . just make sure you have the radiator flow tested or just have it rodded/cleaned very important part of the equation! |
