I have a '00 D2 with ACE. after a pine barrens trip i noticed a loud scraping sound. I thought it was a branch or something stuck in the suspension. After cleaning the underside and driving around some more, i found a leak on the hydraulic arm of the ACE. My qustions are a) can i just take the connection apart? find out what broken, fix it, then put it back together? b) Is the system pressurized at any point, or like brakes and only pressurized when in use? c) does it use any special fluid and where can i refill it? d) would a 3" lift void any ACE warranty? I am currently on warranty hold and would like to avoid leavign my truck at the dealer for a week again waiting for the f#$%^# regional rep to get off his a$$ and look at it, only to then be told too bad and handed a bill for his time. thanks heres a pic of the problem

That looks like a blown seal on the actuator arm. Not sure if that's replacable or not. a. You might be able to replace the seal or have to replace the whole arm. b. Yes, it's pressurized, much more than a brake system, I believe. c. You fill it at the same resevoir unit (separated) as the power steering, uses the D2 power steering fluid I believe. d. Probably. ACE is one of those things that I'm sure they'll have no problem denying the claim with lift on the truck. You might wanna get a shop manual, lots of good info on the ACE system in there. Edit: After looking closer, maybe it's just a leak in the line/arm connector bolt. Have you tried to see if it's loose. Also, is your ACE light on? |

I have not noticed any effect on the handeling due to the problem. I think i will pull the fuse this weekend and see what happens. If i undo the actualtor and stretch it out, hopefully that will depressurize it enough to safely detach the fluid lines to it. THen again if it is pressurized i guess it will be out as far as possible. Oh well, its gonna be a fun project this weekend. thanks -Rick |

Rick: If your messing with it and you don't have a shop manual, you might find some good info here: http://www.disco2.com/tech/ace/ Have fun. |

Rick, Not sure but can you tell if it is the seal at the end of the ram or the junction where it meets. If it is just the junction it is easy fix. Probably has some sealing washers in there. I do not know for sure but I would just wrap a rag over it when I undid it. I don't think it is under that much pressure when the truck is off. It does require special fluid and it is $$$ so see if you can save it. As far as a 3in lift I would say void on the ACE warranty but that is just a guess. Ron |
