It's time to replace the tired old XPCs on my series one discovery - OE is 235 70R16 and here in Canada we're supposed to match the "H" rating of the originals. Here's the rub- the XPCs were a great combination of grip and roadability (OK, I know they get a bit lumpy if you don't rotate them, but I do) and now they're discontinued the replacement Michelin Synchrone isn't grippy enough - it snows here. Does anyone know an alternative with the 'H' load rating? My tyre (tire?) guy can't find one. |

You don't necessarily have to use "H" rated tires unless you think you'll be driving 210 km/h for extended periods of time...and if you're going that fast, you probably have other more pressing concerns. I'm running BFG AT tires that are only rated to go 160 km/h but I know I won't ever get the beast up to that speed so it's not really an issue. Just make sure you have a tire that has the proper load rating. Besides, you're not going to find many "H" rated tires that are going to be satisfactory anyway. The Bridgestone AT tires are rated for around 180 km/h if that's a concern for you. It also depends on whether you want a road biased tire or something more like an all-terrain tire. I highly doubt you'll be able to find any AT tires with "H" ratings. Your best bet would be road biased tires. |
