yeah, so I had a coke (it was actually coke....I am not a typical east tennessee redneck who uses that term generically) in the cupholder and it splashed onto the radio buttons when I went over a speedbump, now the preset button "2" is hard to push and does not pop back out much....but it does work. Tried to spray some electrical parts cleaner back there but it did not really help. Anybody else done this and fixed it, or at least got an idea? Thanks
Matt

Keep trying the electrical parts cleaner - it may take a while. Also try a can of the compressed air (that you use on computer keyboards and cameras) after the parts cleaner.

JetBoy...I think Matt stated what kind of answer he was looking for:

Anybody else done this and fixed it, or at least got an idea?

So, Matt's looking for help, or an idea of how to fix this. Maybe you should have Coke and a smile and shut the f*ck up.

Pardon?

I, too, live in East Tennessee, am not a typical redneck, yet use the term coke as a generic term for any dark soft-drink.

Choose your words wisely, young Skywalker, Vader's in a mood today.....

If I were to spill a proper coke onto the face of my head unit; I would take a HOT HOT HOT damp terry cloth and work it in and out of the buttons. The heat will loosen the syrup and the damp moisture will remove it. Keywords here are HOT and DAMP. Not soaking wet.

Another option is to use Isopropyl Alcohol and q-tips. Not Jim Beam, but drugstore grade alcohol.

This might take a couple of applications, so be patient.

Good Luck,

Paul

A typical redneck would have had a tall-boy of Natural Light and shot the can for being a wise ass!

To fix the problem: simply get a pump of some sorts and mix one part vineger with one part water...

yeah, me too

I was gonna suggest just putting your nose up to the button and sucking wind for all you're worth

P.S. just spray some windex in there - these guys suggesting some fancy cocktail of Isopropyl Alcohol, hot damp rags, and water & vinegar sound like cokeheads... :-)

I had the same problem with a window switch one time. I couldn't figure out why it kept sticking. To clean it properly, you really need to clean the side of the button. I don't know if this is accessable without taking the faceplate off. Good luck.

Well it looks like a caused a controversy. I fixed the radio. I realize it was a simple question but I do enjoy listening to the radio. Sorry to make anyone angry, I was just looking for some help.

Matt,

a) glad you fixed the radio

b) D-web gets, um, "interesting" at times, don't take it personal

c) disregard Gabe's response, let it roll off like water off a duck's back

d) I was just punchy, since I was sitting in a training session, trying to keep myself entertained while the instructor was walking folks through step-by-step on how to do something that I do daily (I finished the exercise before lunch, whereas the rest of the class will finish it tomorrow evening by doing it step-by-step).

e) FWIW, IMHO it is a sign that a product is dominant when it becomes the generic term, ie, coke, q-tip, jeep, tylenol, etc., all are brand names that have become generic terms because of their prominence. Coca-Cola should be proud that folks will walk into a restaurant that serves Pepsi-Cola and orders "a coke"....

Welcome aboard!

So, how's K-town treating ya? What are you doing at UT? Student? Faculty/staff? etc.....

Glad too that you fixed it. I'm much rather read about any type of simple problem/fix, than read the "what brand/type of oil, Amsoil vs Mobil1 threads.

BTW, as a Southerner living out west my family joke is that I won't let my kids call a soft drink "soda" or "pop". I've taught them to use the generic "coke" terminology. Howvever, they don't (yet) appreciate NASCAR, UNC basketball, beach music, BBQ or any of the other fine aspects of Southern culture. And, if the temp gets above 80, and the humidity above 60% they also think it's hot:-)

LOL Jack. I am a westerner stuck in the south. However, I have grown to appreciate NASCAR, Barb-b-que'd swine, and RC cola. :-)

Yeah I am the only one in my family left living in the south, so they enjoy pointing out all of my redneck tendencies. I refrained from putting any nascar stickers on the Disco, but I do have a nice "24" on the back of my silverado. I went to undergrad in Greenville, SC and that was quite a culture shock. I once ordered unsweet tea and thought I was going to be thrown out of the restaurant. I really do think it is more fun living here though. Anyhow, that has nothing to do with Discoverys. BTW, does anyone know how much weight those factory roof rails can support? I have some Thule bars and mounting things left over from the old D1, but I dont see any point in putting them on if they wont hold much. Thanks

LOL - If you've got the "24", you'll have that pissing dude sticker next!
I never watched NASCAR when I lived there, but later worked for a primary sponsor of the Petty's. Got the backstage tour of the shop. The amount of time, money, engery and skill invested by these teams is amazing. Also met Robbie Loomis many times, before he moved to the 24 team. He's a very quiet unassuming type of guy who's forgotten more about cars (especially push rod V8's!) than most people know.

Last week in Moab I had the only vehicle without any stickers in all of Grand County, UT!

I've found European cars with the factory "rails" (Disco, Volvo) much sturdier than the American car's "roof racks" (Explorer). I use the Yakima cross bars w/ the Yakima double cross bar holder on my D2 and it is a solid mount. I've carried a full Yakima Rocket Box 'cross country, a 16' canoe, and two or three bikes up top at various times with no problem. I think the factory limit (inc. weight of rack) is 110 lbs. on-road and 66 lbs. off road. For serious weight, especially off-road, the Adventure style racks are nice.

Charcoal or electric smoker????

Jack,
The big 2 chamber type. I keep a pile of chopped hickory out back for it!

Matt, I have the half rack on mine and I have loaded a ton of pressure treated wood on mine for a fence and pergola. I know I had a couple of hundred lbs. up there easily at one time.

Heehee...Leslie got cranky.....

And just to throw some gasoline on the "soda" fire, when I order a Coke, I want a COKE, not a Pepsi!

Haha that picture is great. Glad to hear I can put some poundage up there, I actually dont have any specific need for it but it seems like there is always long stuff that wont fit in the car--ladder, lumber, kayak, etc-- and it is nice to have the option of putting it up top.
