I always hear people talk about how important a Hi Lift is offroad, but I have stock Disco and there are no jack points on it. Is there any reason, other than to have a new toy, for me to have one of these? |

Well the only jack point is the rear hitch. You can buy a Terrain Master front skidplate that has jack all adapters and buy a jackall. Those are just some options that you might not be aware of. But I don't know exactly, you can winch with it and it looks nice. |

Ray - if you dont have locks and stuff - it might help you to get unstuck. Its not just to lift things with it - you can use it as the "poor man winch" to get yourself out. I think Bruke (4Wheeling America) used to have quite nice articles set on how it can be used on different conditions. High-lift + couple of tow straps (recovery straps wont do in this case as they are stretching) will get you out from very nasty places. Also its good to get you off if you managed to high-center on some boulder while wheeling |

Thanks for the advice. Now I have a good reason to get a bullbar bumper. |

Sergei - have you EVER tried using hi-lift as a hand winch? Let me tell you for starters - a 30-ft strap will stretch about 2-2.5 ft. A couple of straps... At a very least, I'd say a jack and towing chain. But even in this case, you'll be losing a pound or two every hour. Ray - at a small risk of marring your alloy wheels, you can actually use the hi-lift to lift the wheels off the ground. Most 15" and 16" steel wheels and many alloys (including most LR wheels) have a little groove along the circumference of the rim, and the tongue of the hi-lift jack fits there perfectly. You have to be very careful - if the jack base is slippery, you'll be looking for trouble. Whenever I do it, I slip a roll of shop towels on the jack tower (or jam it between the jack tower and fender/quarter panel). |
