This is blaspheme. There was a time when land rovers were taken into jungles, buried in mud pits, dropped from airplanes and driven through herds of wildebeasts across endless deserts. They were mounted with guns to provide safety for soldiers and relief workers. They were treated like tractors and worked like mules. They were unstoppable and unflappable in the most inhospitable places on the planet. They distinguished themselves through arduous service, not glossy madison avenue campaign ads. They were a means to an end... not an end in themselves. What have these accountants done. They have turned a timeless icon into a coddled piece of passing fad. Rovers do not blelong on german race tracks any more than bmw and porsche belong in antarctica or kalimantan.

I don't understand that test. What is it for? I've never even driven a car like that. They are wasting their time developing useless abilities. Very sad.

That was interesting and a bit humorous. I don't think these vehicles will ever be driven like that but hey, if that's what Ford wants to do then I guess they're going to do it. Obviously they've decided to milk the green oval and the heritiage for all it's worth but hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the ass when people realize that it's not really a Land Rover anymore but a souped up Explorer that they just paid a premium for.

Souped up Exploder is right.

That said, I was imagining myself, in an AT tired / stock suspensioned D1 driving that course, and I shivered. I'd love to see one of the more heavily modified rigs on here drive the course as a comparison. volunteers? Something with 33's at least and 3-4 inches of lift, a roof rack loaded with Pelicans, and Boggers on the wheels. :-)

I was also thinking -- Darby for rallye racing? No way -- let's use 05 Discos! :-)

Ugh.

the third-generation Discovery will be more expensive than the current vehicle . It is also being flagged as a more realistic rival for the popular mid-sized 4WDs such as the Toyota and Mitsubishi, BMW x5. including tyre-pressure sensors, in part accounts for the expected increase in price, Added safety gear includes side curtain airbags and electronic Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), which controls slides by applying brakes to individual wheels

Well its good to know that I'll be able to take tight corners at 90 mph in the new Disco. This might come in handy during might night job as a secrect agent. You never know when spies might try to get you. With the new LR Discovery you'll have the ability to go from the mall, to the audobaun, to off-roading during your evasion. A few custom missiles on the sides and I'll be set.

Q: so before you rolled your parents Land Rover and killed all your friends you watched this video and decided to imitate it?
A: Yes, if they could do it, why couldn't mine?

I will have to retract my previous spelling of Audobaun and replace it with the correct spelling which is of course Audubon.

To be honest I'm not even sure if that's correct.

And for your information Chad my mom lets me stay up until 11:00 when I'm good.

My favorite quote from the article.

"On or off road, this car will outperform all of its rivals and any of our current products."

No way. How many of you consider your Discovery a CAR?

hmmm... LR compete in the Toyota and BMW market?
Hmmm... I always thought Rovers didn't sell more because of their lack of build quality (or the reputation) not ride quality. And people put up with the build quality because of it's off road ability.
