Looks like an attempt at an off-road Prowler!

Arrrgh!

My work computer doesn't have imaging software allowing me to resize the other picture I found of this thing so that it'll fit here.

I had to save the JPG as a GIF, losing color, and then use http://www.gifworks.com to resize, so it got butchered a little. Anyway, here's a pic of the Treo rolling with mountain bikes attached...

Wheeling!

From the picture it seems to have an awful small interior space considering the wheelbase. Strange set-up in the rear, is it a trunk?

Article doesn't say -- but the whole thing is only about 2.5 bike lengths long; so maybe the same length as a Wrangler?

I think, given the "seats three or two with luggage" language, it must be a bench seat in the back without much else. Looks like the bikes are mounted to a platform with the front forks clipping to the wings.

There, I said it. "Wings" as a part on a Jeep. The world can now end.

:-)

I don't get it, why would I pay that much just to buy some funky looking bike transporter?

Ever see the FJ Cruiser? (check Toyota.com) I think they may actually produce it. Won't take the place of a Land Rover in my eyes, but at least it will knock the H2 back into reality - yes, you really are just a Suburban in a suit.

LOL, I just noticed the "wings" on the outside of the rear pillar/upper fender, nice beer holder! It's certainly one odd looking truck/suv/crossover/car/hybrid/conceptual vehicle.

That FJ Cruiser just might be on my wish list. I LOVE the spotlights mounted on the rearview mirrors...and the winch bumper and winch!

Funny how Rover shows off a Disco screaming around a track, Jeep sprouts wings, but Toyota shows a concept based on a 25 year old truck design...which of these will produce real off-roaders in the next decade?

That FJ cruiser is just plain cool! Reminds me of the smurf blue iron pig I used to have. 1977 FJ55 wagon. If parts hadn't been impossible to come by I would probably still have it instead of my Series.

Did you guys notice the intent of this exercise?
it "explores the limits of the Jeep brand"

By the way, notice the approach and departure angle? It is made to spare a few range rovers from getting bobtailed :-)

"...and a sill plate pattern based on the tread of a hiking boot."

Uh, I don't want to think about hoofing it if my new vehicle leaves me stranded.

I like European and Japanese minicars. I think a Smart, for example, would be perfect for my commute, while my Discovery waited for evening and weekend exploration. But why a Jeep minicar?

europe and japan could be good markets for jeep, people view jeeps in europe like we view rovers in the US. I.E. expensive and an exclusive club.

What the hell are those wing like things for behind the windows? The thing looks more like a submarine with wheels, rather than an off-road vehicle. I can see there sales slogan "if you have a dirt driveway than this is the perfect rig to get you and your two grocery bags home safely!"

I'd rather have the Rubicon Hiking Boot Full Body Skid Plate under my D1 than the Treo headlights, Chris...

To be fair, a car company can hardly do business in Japan without showing something really, really small. Have a look at the upcoming concepts for the Tokyo Motor Show, for example: http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2003/tokyo/preview/index.html.

Love that Toyota RetroCruiser or whatever it is, by the way. I hope it gets built.

Here's what that Jeep is up against if it goes to production. And these guys have been at it for years so I think it will be hard to beat. http://www.spitfiremotors.com/sparrow.html

That has to be one of the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen! Imagine getting into an accindent at 60 mph in that Sparrow. I'd laugh at a person if they told me they feel safe in one of those.

Ugly for a car. Handsome for a submarine.
