I've been gone on TDY with the Air Force for a while. On my return I noticed some sap had gathered on my hood (I have no garage and a large Oak just above my driveway). I assume the sap is from the oak (although I have many other trees in my yard) as its the same tree that drops acorns like bombs all around my yard, driveway, and deck. Anyway I thought no big deal. When I get the chance I'll get some remover and take it off. Took it though a car wash a few times asking them to try to get it off without luck. Today I bust out the sap remover to find that the sap has actually eaten away at my paint job. I now have a dozen or so black spots on my hood and roof where all of my protective layer and paint are gone. I also have another dozen or so thin areas where the outer protective layer appears to be gone. First: I didn't realize that tree sap could be so destructive in such a short time (couple of months). Must be an acid of some sort in it. Second: Any chance that this kind of wear of the paint job might be covered by the warranty? Third: Any idea of what I can do to repair this if not covered by warranty? I'm pretty bummed. While I like going offroad and earning some scars the thought of future rust damage bothers me. Thanks a ton for any help. |

Not sure about warranty, it depends on the year and milage of you Disco. (also how nice the LR Service manager is) Tree sap is very hard on all paints. If you have Disco II, then it is all aluminum on the outside and rust is not that big of a concern. Don't get me wrong Aluminum will oxidize, just not rust in the way that a metal vehicle will. |

Thanks for the input. I'm going in next week, because the heated windscreen is no longer heated. This is being replaced under warranty no questions asked. Hopefully this is a good omen. |
