My 98 Disco just doesn't seem to have the power that it should... It's sluggish going up hills and on the highway.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Lots of stuff can be cause of it.
Plug, wires, clogged air filter, clogged oil filter, clogged fuel filter. Leaks? Holes in exhaust, clogged exhaust.. Slipping belt..Bad fuel..
I think more experienced folkz will be able to extend such list :-)

Don't forget the Cats. The will cause it to be sluggish....

Of course if the Disco is new to you, then it just might be normal....Disco's are not sports cars by a long shot.

our 3.9 was so under powered that i hated it. i had to manually drop gears with the shifter. floor it and even still it lack the power needed. new tune up and the rest of it i found out that once i adjusted the transmission kick down things would be better. it shifted harded accecelaterated way better and even dropped in to passing gear when needed. who would of guessed. i even noticed that the throttel cable was a bit streached. once i fixed this i am now laughing unstead of cursing this underpowered rover. seriously adjust your kick down and i bet it will go. there is an archive on this adjustment. as it was recent.

I definetly have an exhaust leak on my 97. Whenever I accelerate I can hear it. It sounds like pressurized air leaking at about 5 bursts a second. ideas how to isolate it and fix?
