G'day all, Please go easy on me as I am new here and this is my first post!

I just got my second Disco I 300 TDi (the first one was written off in a crash), and it seems a little down on power compared to my old one. I thought that it might be the Air Cleaner so I replaced that, then I tried the Fuel and Oil filters, no luck! Under the bonnet the only difference I can see is that the hose from the air cleaner box to the side wall is missing. After thinking about this, I'm not sure if it would effect the power, for one there’s one less bend so the air flows straight in, but then again, the air is under bonnet temp, and probably a hell of a lot warmer! Does this hose make for cooler cleaner air, or does it sit there to make the engine quieter?

Also, the power loss seems to only at high speeds (Which is why I thought it would be air flow). There isn’t any black smoke to make me think it is injectors. Any ideas would be great.

Daniel,

The under bonnet temperature may make a difference as the warmer air is less dense and carries less oxygen per litre of air. Try replacing it or if you intend to use the Disco seriously fit a snorkel. The performance (and fuel consumption) of mine improved after doing this.

Mine has a short but sweet band above 3000 rpm which is about 120 kmh in 5th gear (and illegal). I find travelling below 110 kmh in fifth requires more effort.

You could also check the condition of the hose from the filter to the turbo as these have been known to delaminate and restrict the breathing.

PS

You could also try posting on these forums

www.lrenthusiastforum.com and www.aulro.com

as V8's dominate here.

Thanks Mahn, I should have mentioned that it is especially noticeable going up hill in 4th. My old Disco would pull 120 KMh+ up a hill that the new one will manage just 90. The new air cleaner added about 10 Kmh, but still well down on the ease the previous one did the hill with! Will check the hoses when there is some light out-side.
