The radio will be after market, but I had to order the original speakers (4) because the others didn't fit

ok well i had a wiring diagram but installing a aftermarket stereo is a little tricky. but since you have the speakers out then you can see the wires already and the colors they are. next step is to find your amp. it is in the kick panel on the passenger side. you have to bypass the amp for the aftermarket stereo to work. so just run all new wire from you stereo behind the glove box to the amp and snip the wires off the amp to the colors on the speakers and tie them into the ones you ran for you stereo. if you have the tweeters in the windows they tie into your door speaker and the wires have the colors of the tweeters not the doors . so you might have to pull back the trim alittle to see the colors. and i do still have the wiring color chart if it will help so you know what color the plug wires are. i think two of the plugs on this chart where backwards but the colors where right.

thanks a lot for the diagram, it will certainly help, I didn' know about the preamplifier, are the speakers really crap? I might still have time to return them and try to get better ones with more time.

John,

Thanks for the wiring info. I was looking for that for a while.

By the way, I keep getting a broken image on the diagram for the amp (http://www.infoeverywhere.com/jhelmig/ampcon.gif)

I don't know if you have the antennas mounted on the rear windows, but how did deal with the dual antenna connectors?

Also, the antenna connectors seem to be different on my head unit from the standard cylindrical metal Motorola connctor. Are there adaptors for these?

Victor

ya two antennas only need to use one and yes there are adaptors to fit up to land rovers just goto a good stereo shop and they will have the adapter for a couple of bucks. by the way even with just using one antenna i have the best reception i ever had in a vehicle.

your amp in your aftermarket stereo has a amp already built in that is better than the amp in the rover . but if you don't bypass then you are send a ampliphied singnal to a amp, might sound really bad.

If you only use one antenna would you loose either the AM or FM reception?

Hey thanks for the wiring diagram John! I was too lazy and I gave it to my installer and it was a great time (and $$) saver for my stereo.

Marco.
Pioneer speakers will fit in the doors, pillars, and subwoofer area. I replaced my stock speakers last year and it sounded 100 times better than the originals. However, it still wasn't loud enough for my tastes. I seemed to be cranking the volume knob to 3/4 to be able to hear above the noise.
I'm hoping I get the same satisfaction from installing a new stereo that I did from the speakers.

Got my auto back last night after getting the new stereo installed.
Holy Moly!! I can hear the stereo while traveling down the highway with my window open. The installer was even able to use the existing LR subwoofer power amp.

Question though. I've noticed that since I'm only using 1 antenna the reception is poor. Know of any products that can boost the signal?

Thanks Patrick, I'll go to the store this Wednesday and try to get a better stereo than the one I got, and the speakers since the guy that ordered the speakers never called, I'll also get the remote starter installed with them so I figure I can get a deal if I get everything from them, I'll post the news as soon as possible,

marco,

When I pulled my factory unit on my '98 Disco out of the dash there was a slip of paper taped to the top. It indicated that one of the two antennas was the "Main" antenna and the other a secondary.

Since your original unit was stolen this probably wouldn't help, but if I remember correctly, the one that was plugged into the bottom plug was the "Main" antenna.

I think John is right to try the other.

BTW, many higher end 3rd party head units will have a unamplified preamp audio out and sub-woffer out for connection to external amplifiers. I wonder if this would work with the factory amplifiers.
