I'm installing fog lights(100 watt each)wasnt sure if I could use existing wire harness based on light being 100 watt. I think factory fog lights are 55 watt.So do I need a 30 amp relay or is there a relay already in wire harness. |

(1) There's not a relay in the factory wire harness. (2) Conventional wisdom is that you cannot run 100W lights off factory wiring. (3) I'd suggest running the wiring through a relay with inline fuse for power wire, and tapping into the factory switch. OR, you could run a search in the archives under "Hella 500/530" and read how Blue, Bill Howell, and I tapped into the highbeams and/or parking light wires for a switch. It's nice to always have the fogs on with the parkers, and highbeam+driving lights=lots of light! Good luck! Andy |

I was thinking of doing just that, put an inline fuse and relay but tap into existing wire at dash for fog light pod. thanks. |

Having spent the better part of yesterday troubleshooting wiring for my dealer installed LR Aux lighting, I was looking closely at fuses and relays and the wiring for the foglights. It is either 16 or 18 guage wire. Personally, I wouldn't run anything less than 14 guage for 100watt lights, and most likely I'd run 12 guage. But if you want to chance it, the easiest way to wire them up would be to cut the plugs off the old fog lights and use them on the new ones and just plug them right in....the worst thing that will happen is you'll melt the wires and/or blow the fuse, in which case you can start that proper wiring project then. (melted wires can be a fire hazard!!) Oh, by the way, I am pretty sure you will find a relay for the fog lights in the fuse box under the hood. Does anyone know where the fuse is located by the dealer for installed LR Aux lights? |

Rans, I agree with you Ive decided to just run new wires and relay (easy enough). No need to risk frying wires that are in my harness, potential for trouble.I'm leaving wires in harness alone.Just cutting connector at dash for proper connection for pod. |
