Been a while since I've been over to DWeb...some changes around here. Wow.

Anyway, a few days ago my tail lights and my dash lights on my 96 Disco went out. They appear to be related to the same problem. Here are a few symptoms: When I am not using the main-beam lights at all, the light on my gear-shift-selector (glowing PRND21 column) is on as it always has been. However, as soon as I switch the lights on, instead of the selector-light just dimming as it used to, it goes off completly. All warning lights on the dash are fine still (I have an O2 sensor alarm right now and have seen the SRS light on as well as the fuel-low light). All of my front lights are fine (parking, low and high beams), all of my turn signals work, and the rear "fog" lights (second button down on the left hand pod - used for driving in bad weather so the vehicle is more obvious from behind) are fine. However, the tail lights themselves and the lights that illuminate the dash and climate controls no longer come on.

I have checked all fuses that are listed as having an effect on those systems, but in each case the fuse has been fine (I've actually swapped them into other locations to validate). Plus, almost all associated fuses have at least one other item listed that still works. I have not had a chance yet to just start going thru all fuses under the dash and in the hood for a systematic "just in case" check, but hope to do so this later this week. Some techs at a local UHaul messed around with my trailer light connector around the same time this happened, and I really think it may have had an effect (the tail lights of the trailer don't work now either, of course). I un-did what they did and fixed the connector, but if damage was done this didn't fix it. Since the front lights all work fine, I doubt it's an issue with the actual switch. It almost feels like a ground-fault problem, but i can't tell from where...

If anyone has ANY suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm really having trouble trying to track this down. Since the rear "fog" lights work and all the front lights work, I can still drive the vehicle at night and no one would know. However, I can only use a trailer in the day now and I have no lights on my dash at night (I need to use my maglite to verify my speed on occassion).

As always, DWeb, advTHANKSance!!!
