yeh i know this is not the proper section for this vehicle, but there is no proper section here.
just looking for information regarding these cars.
i bought a 1980 Rover 3500, 5 speed, 4 dr, etc.
nice car, but needs some minor work. i.e. rotors and engine tuning.
any information on good parts source and general info appreciated.

the Good ol SD1....four door ferrari looks
Same Rover engine, LT77 gearbox, which was seen in S form in the NAS 110 and a few early D90s.
Do a Google search for Rover SD1 and you'll fine some good sites. The Triumph TR8 had similar engine/gearbox arrangement.

has the same motor of course as my '88 RRC. 5 speed feels nice and it rides damn nice!! just needs some rotors and some minor tuning. thing is in solid shape with just one minor rust bubble. new tires and alloys are perfect. interior is good too. love the shag carpet!!
thanks for the info.

nope. here is the story.
i was at CPAA (centra PA auto auction) one day just looking for some jeeps, etc.
i noticed this car they were running in the 'junk' lane and saw that it was a Rover.
i immediately saw the bid was only $250. i ended up getting it for $500.
the thing is in great shape. has an extra set of alloys in the back along with some extra spare filters, hoses, etc.
very little rust at all. just needs some new rotors, pads and some minor engine tuning. i.e. timing, cap, rotor, wires, etc.
the 5 speed is great and it really drives well on the highway. very smooth.
very neat looking car.
i don't remember seeing one like mine in dave's garage. i think he has a P4 or something like that.

Sounds good at $500.

Shag carpet eh...must be the Austin Powers edition. Very rare

Of course it could be an Austin Rover.....

Some here may recall those heady post British Leyland days when the corporation was called Austin Rover Group....

lol

Yipes!

I drove one of these from 1980 until 1999. Sold it to Jim Pendleton in / near Witchita.

I was just looking at "Classic Car" (?) magazine last week at the local Barnes & Noble...there's an article about the SD1's. Turns out that the XJS (?) front rotors & calipers bolt right on!

Take a peek, there's a thriving aftermarket...in the UK of course, for these underappreciated cars.

Cheers,

Keith

when i bought it just about every good ol boy was wondering what the hell it was. many comments were, "have fun finding parts for it."
it was sorta like having a UFO land in Mill Hall, PA. they were waiting for little green people wearing Dale Earnhardt jackets to exit the Rover.
it was pretty funny.

I'd love to have an older Rover car, like a 100.... but for $500, you can't beat that... Great find....

really the brown is not all that bad. i thought the same thing, but it has grown on me.
to appreciate it you have to really sit in it and get your groove on with the shag brown carpet.
now all i need are some brown bean bag chairs.

Garrett,

Dave has one in the big garage out back - you can poke around if you come to Robesonia. Buy it too and you can start a trend! LOL

I've always lusted after one of those, but then sanity regains a hold for a short time :-)

i talked to dave about them shortly at MAR. but our conversation quickly changed to talking about his Airstream getting totalled just 2 weeks before MAR. talked to steve h. about them too. between the two of them i could write a book. just trying to gather what i can.
funny thing happened tonight. i was at the shop doing some work on my truck after work and some 14 year old kids were snooping around as usual. finally one came up and asked, "whos Rover car is that down there?" i was pretty amazed that he was interested in that car of all that i have around. considering i have a new mini, a bmw z3, discoverys, wranglers, etc. and what he felt was the coolest was a $500 Rover 3500.
he's gonna be a good kid!
ps: hoping to make it to dave's, but will have to see what my schedule is like.

The shag pile is standard, JRA (Jag/Rover Australia) sold heaps of these down here but they all had different rectangle one piece headlights. DBA (disc brake Australia) make replacement rotors for sure. Check the panhard rod on the rear end, cars that got driven hard used to rip the mount of the floor. Some of them had self leveling shocks as well. Nice car to drive and they look good as well.

Now where's that guy that was trying to sell the supercharger for a rover v8? LOL

oh, you mean my good buddy Lance? I just got two immature, whiny emails from him last week. Think about that...it was over 8 months ago that he had his supercharged tantrum, and he's STILL emailing me to call me names and "get back at me". He is the King of Dweb Wannabe Has-Beens...King Chump!
