Funny video as long as he didn't get hurt too badly. I'm an ER doc and the most interesting things I see are strings of bizzare coincidneces culminating in an event that brings a patient to my ER. The ladder reminded me of a patient that worked at a shoe store.

She was on a ladder and couldn't quite reach a box so stretched really far over while wedging her foot into the ladder for balance. She lost her balance anyway and fell. Well she just happened to be wearing open-toed sandals and her second toe got caught in the ratchet mechanism for the a-frame ladder. Her toe popped right off. All we could do was numb her up, clip off the remaining bone, and sew a skin flap on.

If she had done any of the following she would have gone home after a boring day at work and maybe gotten lucky, drunk, or both:

1. Moved her ladder closer to the box when she saw that she couldn't reach it.
2. Not worn open toed sandals.
3. Not wedged her foot into the ladder for balance.
4. Not had the freak luck to actually get her toe stuck in the gearing.

Most of the minor trauma we see is just dumb luck. Most of the major trauma is just plain dumb.
