I have a 99 series 1 disco and am in the process of getting a 2" OME HD lift for it. I'm wondering if I need the OME shocks as well as the springs or if I could just get away with the factory shocks. If I do need the shocks could you all give me any suggestions? I'm planning on putting 245/75 BFG MT's afterwards. Could I go bigger without trimming? Thanks everyone! |

I have an 97 Disco, when I put 2" OME HD front and rear, I went with new shocks, because I had not idea how old the ones on it were. I went with Bilsteins, because it is my daily driver and wanted better on road handling. I have been told that OME's are very good as well, but a little softer ride. Living in the hills of WV, I got through alot of curvy roads to get anywhere, so I wanted a little stiffer ride. I also put on 245/75-16 tires, I have not trimmed yet, but before I do any off Highway driving, I will have to do some minor trimming to the rear fenders. Once you install the new tires, you will see that with any major articulation at all you will hit the fender. Hope this helps. |

Has anyone here gone with the 2" OME HD springs and kept the factory shocks? Does anyone recommend this? |

It is not a problem, but obivously you are not going to have the benefit of any better ride or articulation. |

Don't do it (IMHO). When you replace the fron springs do the shocks too, you will have them off anyhow. Might as well match them front and rear, so do the rear shocks as well. Especially if your stock shocks are still original or have >20k miles. I hate to break it to you, but it is very likely that you need to move the rear fender out or trim even with 245/75. Otherwise when articulated pretty good your tire will stuff into the wheel well and rub the rear of your rear quarter panel. I ran the exact setup that you are doing for years (OME HD+OMEshocks+245/75 BFG MT). When articulated they will rub.

I have the OME HD spring setup and factory shocks, and am upgrading to new shocks this week. Anyone running any of the adjustable (from the cab) shocks? Joey, do you have a part number for your Bilsteins?

Not sure which is front or rear on Bilsteins, but here you go. Bilstein B460243 Bilstein BE52779 At least that is what it looks like on my invoice (it was hand written) |

I ran about 6 months with OME762's with a 3/4" spacer in the rear and LR 3" lift springs front, without upgrading shocks. The ride was great, but I found front downtravel to be severely limited by the factory shocks. I fitted OME N73's front and N44's rear. A common misconception is that OME provides better articulation. The OME shocks are virtually same length as factory, so the "long travel" part has a bit of question mark to it. |

Chris, I had the rancho in- cab in my Jeep and never could keep it from leaking. I would get it to stop, but it would just leak somewhere else. A good idea, but with cheesy parts. I could of went to better lines and maybe hardlines most of way, but I went to King coil-overs. |
