Just make sure that before you go ahead and purchase the new differential, you tear it apart to make sure what is really wrong. The gears are pretty tough as long as you don't drive too much after noticing some problems. The first thing to go wrong is all the bearings and races. For the front it would cost almost $300.00, if the gearing is shot, expect the cost to soar over a grand in parts alone, if you chose to go with factory parts.

Make sure after the differential is rebuilt to buy a gasket and double it with permetex, your differentials don't have to leak.

If you "blow" a diff, you will not be able to rebuild it. Both of the ones I have have seen the carrier is split on one side and the pinion pin is broke. You are better off to buy a true track or arb diff. As long as the ring and pinion is still good you are looking at 380.00 for the TT and 100.00 for the bearings. Unless you are just in a money pinch, I see no need to waste money on a stock diff.

You can get new stock diffs for $300, though. :-)

And, money is a concern for many of us....

Well I had planned on replacing the front with TruTrac and the back with Detroit when and if they bow. I was just curious about the ring and pinion, and other bearings that might not be incuded in the diff kit that some offer.

Will Cupp -- Where are you getting those prices for the TT? I have seen $450 at best for the diff alone.

Thanks

BJ, Expedition Exchange carries the TT for $400 plus another $50 for the bearing already pressed on.

www.Rovertym.com has the TT for 380.00. They do not come with bearings. The Temkin bearings are right around 100.00, I think.Bearings may be less. I think Steve can get the bearings for you also.
