Who has a pic of a snorkel installation on a RRC at hand ? If possible showing the engine compartment, too.
I am inclined to get one but not sure which one I should prefer: Mantec, Safari, ..

Maybe in the somewhere in the archive ?

thanks and regards

look at tavia lynn range rover in the photo section. not a very clear shot. but you will notice an increase in power, it looks cool, survers it purpose well; allready hydrolic one engine. and it sounds mean. i would sugest to install one.

i asked the same question u are asking when i bought my mantec snorkel. there are no documented info on install. so i figure it's an easy straight forward install... minor thing that nobody cared to post on the web... took me 2 days w/ an extra pair of hands.

good luck

Han nice job on the snorkel. What are the dimensions on the diameter of that intake pipe. Is it 2.25 or 2.5
Hendrik I built my own for $47 and it looks sweet. I am getting a digital camera this weekend and will send you pics if you like. I have seem some homemade ones that look pretty bad. This one is real similar to the Defender's with the mushroom top. Also Han did an excellent job, but you don't need to take the bonet off. Also I would recommend a hole saw, much faster and cleaner. If you need a parts list let me know, and if you want pics I will send them.

aaron, so how were you able to fasten this...
http://www.necessiteesapparel.com/rangie/mantec_snorkel/DSC01452.JPG
...?

aside from not being able to fasten at the bottom, i don't see how one could fit the tube through the cut out hole without taking out the bonet... if you'r homemade set up is different from a mantec then we'r talking about 2 different things. i dunno... maybe you could share w/ us some know-how on a mantec snorkel install.

hendrik, installing a mantec is a pain in the ass but worth it. personally i'v always liked the mantec snorkel other snorkels might be easier to install and more attractive price-wise... even better a $47 homemade... performance? probably all the same.

good luck

thanks.

Han I mounted snorkel to the A-pillar with a custom made bracket, and that holds it stable. The mushroom cap is for a New Holland Tractor, I can get the part # for you. It was $24, the aluminum for the banding was $2.50, the central vac hose for under hood was $8, I had the O2 silicone so didn't count it. I pop riveted the bands to the pipe, and the bands to the A-pillar. Mounted like a safari snorkel on a jeep. I used tailpipe for the actual snorkel pipe, cut a deal with the muffler shop for it and they bent it. For a seal around the entry to the bonnet I used a windshield washer hose sliced down the center then sealed with O2 sensor, and good ole rustoleum, wanted to use POR-15, but I was out and that would have doubled the cost. Worked like a charm, gas mileage no different, power maybe a little better, sounds and looks awesome. I had it at MAR, I will post some pics this weekend, I am purchasing my first digital camera this weekend so I will try to post, If you want pics I will email them to you or try to get dweb to post, dash is out this week for heater motor replacement so she's not moving much.

aaron, soundss like you did what my eventual plan is.

take to muffler shop and have them bend it for ten $

toss the cap on top and use vacume hose to air filter.

i would appreciate that part number, whenever you have time. no hurry

I have installed a Mantec snorkel on my 1988 rrc and it can be done without removing the hood (bonnett) or firewall cover. Making one small modification to the lower mounting tab will have the snorkel installed in no more than 2.5 hours. I have written a complete installation procedure and will email it to anyone that likes or it can be found in back issues of the Solaros newsletter.

aaron,

Thanks for the pics. Looks nice and clean. However, your tree seems to be bleeding blue berries all over the place!

I didn't really pay attention till you said that about the blueberrys, It was raining when I took those pics with my camera, and I guess the light from the flash and the blue from the rover gave it that look. It looks like I ran it through a berry patch though. What nobody gonna ask about that MAR clay coat under the hood. Thats what real offroaders use for undercoat protection the hell with that high dollar stuff, just good old fashioned Virginia clay. I had to put a heat shield back on and what a muddy mess under there.
Thanks for the great response. I was just trying to make something look good at an affordable price. I asked a few months ago about snorkels and everyone said it could be done just that most look like shit. I would like to think mine is okay, now let me make another 2 or 3 and I will have it perfected. Good luck, if you all need any further info let me know.
