Guys, I have read the earlier posts on ABS but those really don't address the problem I'm having. The ABS light is ON while driving my '99D1. Dealer's suggestion get the D1 in for a diagnostic test $100. If the ABS sensors need to be replaced $1000 worst case fix scenario. Does anyone know how I could avoid the above and fix this problem. Removing the ABS fuses isn't going to get me anything. If I do get a diagnostic done and replace the sensors myself, I'll have to ask the dealer to reset the ABS system inorder for the warning light to dissappear. I'd like to know if there's any other way of getting around this issue. Any body who's run into a similar problem, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experience and quick fix. Thanks. -Praveen |

1. Pull the fuse on the ABS. 2. Place a piece of black electrical tape over the Anti-lock light. |

Praveen There are a couple of things you can do First, try to see if your ABS sensors just need to be re-adjusted. Move the units up and down to see if there is any play on them and see if this fixes the problem Second, take the ABS pump fuse out of the engine compartment this will disengage the ABS system (You will no longer have ABS on any of the wheels), then take the bulb out of the front dash, this is what I did for a year until I bought my own new set of sensors, this leads me to the Third option, fix them yourself, if you don't know which sensor is bad and you probably don't than head on down to the dealership and have them do the analysis that will tell you exactly how many sensors you have bad and which ones. Finally, the fourth one the cheapest one is just ignore the light if your not experiencing any problems with your ABS system than just ignore it, but mind you that you will eventually start having problems stopping the vehicle at the worst possible times!!!! |

I was constantly kinda scared stopping or going down hills because my ABS sytem kinda went crazy sometimes on its own (especially over bumps). Sometimes it would go nuts when I was going 3 miles an hour on flat pavement, which was scary too, so imagine flying down the freeway and needing to stop.... Today I pulled the fuse under the dash and no more craziness for now. I put a phone book on my seat to sit on also, so the anti-lock light is now blocked by the steering wheel. Neil's solution sounds good too. I was thinking of making all my instrument cluster lights orange as well, so it'll blend in. |

Guys, I'd really like your sense of humor I saw all your posts first thing today morning and had a real good laugh. Atleast my day will be better with all the humor rather than worrying about the D1. Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I'll opt for Tony's first suggestion. If this doesn't solve the problem then I'll have to take the third. Cheers. -Praveen

i ran a diagnostic check on my rrclassic. i got the information from spanish trail rovers. not sure if it will work on disco. but anyway i was quoted at over $4000.00 repair. once i found out how to diagnose, this is what i came up with. a faulty break light switch. and one rear sensor out of phase. fixed it my self and saved four grand. wich of coarse went into off raod accessories. good luck with yours. |

I searched but didn't pull it up, but there is a procedure published here earlier that does an ABS diagnostic by reading out different flashes? pulses? and will tell tell you why your system is freaking out. I've also had luck just reseating all the sensors. The ABS then clears when it does its rolling self check. |

I'm having a similiar problem on my 95 Disco. Which fuse is for the ABS? Also, if pulling the fuse doesn't help, Which wires under the hood do I pull to disengage the ABS system. |

I've got the ABS system working again. I did go to the dealer who ran a diagnostic test. But before I could actually go get the test done I had removed the fuses for the ABS ( 1 fuse from the engine compartment & 2 fuses from the steering well). By doing this it seems that the fault codes get erased. So when the diagnostic was run there were no error codes available. None the less, the technician at Land Rover Cary,NC was nice enough to adjust all the ABS sensors and then drove the Disco for 5 mi to see if the ABS would come back on. According to the technician one of the sensors was loose that was causing the problem. So far so good. I spent $100 for the diagnostic and the ABS is working fine for now. |
