Going 70mph . engine cuts out. Cranks , fires up for a second, then dies. Towed home. No pressure on fuel rail. No fuel pump sound. Removed gas cap, then everything works again. If cap is replaced, normal tightness, engine fails again. If left loose, seems to run OK. I think it's the fuel pump at the end of it's life. Opinions ? 120K mi. Original pump. |

Fuel pump is kaput. Get one through http://www.discountrovers.com, put it in yourself...it's not a hard job. Andy |

Thanks, Andy. I thought so, but I was getting all kinds of weird ideas about defective gas caps and alarm immobilization. I wonder why the pump turns on when the cap is loose or removed but has no comforting humm prior to that. Is the pump so weak that it can't overcome the systems vacuum? I was planning on calling Nathan anyway. Thanks again for your input.. -Tom |

I talked to Nathan today. Turns out, he had a very similar, if not the same problem with his truck. He now drives with a loose gas cap and no problems since. I guess I'm going to investigate the tank ventilation system to see if something is gunked up. I would have thought having the cap loose would cause some emmissions codes to be thrown. Ron, I'll check the connections tomorrow. Thanks for that tip. |
