So my nearly new Disco has a bunch of spots of paint and finish missing thanks to tree sap. Didn't know the stuff could be so destructive. The dealer says sorry no warranty on this, but they will gladly fix it for $1100. Any thoughts on a cheaper method to at least make it look better. The spots are all about quarter size; some down to the black under finish, and some only to the paint. There are about 24 in all. Thanks.

hey im no expert in paint restoration but i just bought a black disco and had the same thing on it.. pine sap is the worst cause and i think the rest are just water spots.. i think the ones i have are mostly caused by over spray from the headlight cleaners spraying all over the hood and baking in the sun... you may have different results than i did.. I wet sanded with 1500 grit and then 2000 grit and then i used all mguire products and a craftsman highspeed buffer from Sears ($60)(dont get the cheap random orbital!) i started with the 3M polishing compound or swirl remover and then went over with mguires paint cleaner and then over with show car glaze and then finished with the step 3 wax. My buddy and i did teh whole disco and it took about 8 hours and we each had a buffer but it looks better than factory now. I got 90% of the water marks out on the hood. If you arent familiar with mguires products shoot me an email and ill send you a picture of the exact products i used.. i guess the worst case scenario you could wet sand teh hood to the base coat and then have a maco shoot it again with a clear coat for $200 or less...

I try to use the mud cover as much as possible. My wife however likes a clean car when she drives. Thanks for the advice though.
