I am looking for the ECU for the cruise control. I have a Haynes manual and the Rave cd but they both start at 1995. They say that the ECU is behind the fascia panel under the steering wheel. All I can find is the fuse box with a bunch of wires. So where is it on a 1994??? Thanks Charles

Was this a dumb question or something?

94 and 95 are essentially the same truck. I haven't had to look for the cruise ECU yet, but there are some thing up under the left side of the dash, look up through where the black piece of cardboard attatches.

I know most of the modules are on the passenger side, behind the glovebox. Don't suppose the manuals are made in Engalnd? (RHD cars)

Yes both are made in England. Maybe I need to take the glove box out and look behind it. Charles

What's the problem?

Most cruise problems are old vacuum lines that split at the ends.....

Well I got all new vacuum lines. The cruise will work great sometimes and other times none at all. When it is not working I don't hear the click under the dash when I press the set button on the steering wheel. I wanted to find the ecu and reseat the plug and check that it is getting the 12v to turn it on when the cruise control switch is on. Charles

Same problem on my 95 D1. Cruise works fine or not at all. Checked the vacuum hoses, cut off the split ends and reattached and so on. Replaced the master cruise power switch under the radio, same results. Interested to see if the vacuum pump or the ecu is the culprit......Gregg

Mines also been dead for a while. The vacum lines where trashed, but have been replaced.

Still no cruise.

I was suspecting possibly the switches on the pedals?

if there is no click near the glovebox when you turn the master switch on, then relay isn't working

This is weird...I checked the master switch to see if the ECU was clicking near the glove box. The ECU would click when I hit the master switch but only when the transmission was in park, neutral and reverse but not in drive. It would make sense that if the brakes were engaged the cruise would disengage but the ECU should still "click" on in drive, right? Or am I missing something here? Is the switch on the brake pedal the possible problem? Gregg

Thanks for the credit. I don't post often, in fact, my registration had been purged so I couldn't post it last week, but I hope the system isn't so different from model year to model year that the write-up will still be useful for 94-96 model years too.

Good luck,
Kit

Ok finally got time to work on it today. The troubleshooting guide from Kit was dead on. The pin-out is the same, just the wire colors are different. Everything checks out with mine. Still will not work correctly. I drove down the road with the ecu hanging out and everything worked for about 2 miles then it dropped out and would not engage again.Could be bad ecu?? Gonna keep playing with it. Charles

I have the same intermittent problem with cruise control on my 95 D1. Could someone clarify re: the clicking when the unit turns on? When and where should I hear the clicking and what is the significance if I do not?

Thanks.

Will

Well I'll add my 2 cents (Canadian) to cruise control ills. Seems I don't hear a click with the master switch engagement, but definately hear one when the steering wheel switch is activated and the cruise control decides it wants to work. The "click" is from the glove box area. My 97 disco only has 40,000 miles and everything under the hood checks out. Somedays it works everytime, others not at all. What's that saying about Lucas?..."The prince of darkness"?
