I was having a talk with a mechanic friend of mine about the type of oil I use and want to do with the old stuff. He said that if you are lucky sometimes people will buy your used oil to recycle it. He implied that oil companies use cycled oil and resell it. If that is true, how come I have never seen it and is all new oil new?

The used oil gets used for home heating oil and such, not re-used for engines. Most gas stations and Jiffy Lubes sell the used oil to a company that specializes in reclaiming it and reselling it.

Auto Zone will take it for free, but they sure won't give you money for it.
