Can you all give me some advice on the benefits of 235/85 over 245/75 or vice versa. I'm thinking on going with the 245 Goodrich MT's but am curious as to if I should go bigger or not. I have a '99 series 1 and am getting an OME 2" hd lift for it. Thanks for your wisdom. |

if you are going from stock to 235/85, you'll notice that the disco will be alot slower due to gearing ratio. you'll have to do some work to get the 235's to fit, but the 245's should go right in. search the tech area for more info. |

You'll rub even with the 245/85s under compression, rear part of rear wheel well. Technically either tire will fit without modification. Both will rub on the body when articulating, so you need to trim or pull out the rear wheel well at a very minimum (see tech section). Lift is wise (see tech section and EE website). I run 245/75 BFG AT on road and 235/85 Trxus MT offroad. see it the gallery. The question you are asking is very common and has even been asked a number of times even within the past few weeks. So you might wish to use the search capability of Discoweb. http://www.discoweb.org/cgi-bin/discus/search.cgi Just a few... ../17/55.html> ../17/24690.html> ../17/29005.html> ../17/9431.html> ../17/15150.html> ../17/24721.html> ../17/31680.html>

I recently upgraded from stock XPC's to Goodyear MTR's in 245/75's and love them. It was a tough decision, but one thing that really makes the 245's a nice deal is that a lot of Rubicon owners are putting larger tires on their wranglers and are selling the MTR's for very cheap. Bought mine for less than $70 a piece. They are a bit loud on the road, but wear well, handle well, and are A LOT better off road. Well duh, they should be. Under full articulation, i get some rubbing on the rear quarter panels. I Even dented the bottom under from a recent trip and while doing a little rock crawling the tires tore up the inner part of hte fender a little. THey also rub the radius arms. I'm quite happy with the 245's and will stick with this size. One nice point aobut the 235 is they are usually cheaper than 245's. I wanted the slightly shorter and wider tire of the 245. Either size will work well.

The 235 won't rub the radius arms with stock set bump stops (turning radius is better). 245s won't if you move the bump stops. |

235-85 is roughly a 32 inch tire and the 245-75 is roughly a 30.5 inch tire for a happy medium you could try a 265-70 which is 31 in by 10.5 wide but they are a bit harder to find but BFG does make them and the 70 series sidewall will give you better cornering on the pavement. There you go RT |

upgrade the suspension then get the tires will still have to attend to the rear quarter panel corner - trim and/or pull out a bit here's a pic with 245/75/16 on OME HD springs & shocks:

Yep, that will eat the tires pretty quickly too. |

I asked the identical question a month or so ago... I settled on Geolander AT+ II in 245/76-16 and am very happy with my choice. The 235/85's, I ultimately decided, where just a little too much for the street. And these days, when I'm heading off-road, it's usually on a motorcycle rather than the disco. |
