I noticed tonight that I'm leaking radiator fluid, and I'm trying to isolate where its coming from but I can't seem to find it. I can see where it drips but I can't isolate where its coming from.

I know its not coming from the hose connection, is coming from behind the metal piece. The picture is from underneith. The white bottom corner is the oil filter. Is that where the water pump is? Do you think that its leaking from the water pump seal?

I looked this morning again to see if I could locate the leak with no luck. I tried tightening the clamp around the hose with no luck either. Does anyone have any ideas.

Alright, here's some new info. I found out that the fluid is leaking from the weep hole. Why is it leaking now, and what does it mean?

This might be way off, but is it the coolant expansion tank that may be leaking? Mine got a small crack in it and leaked when ever there was pressure in the tank.

If the coolant is leaking out the weep hole in the water pump the bad news, though not that bad, is that you need a water pump. The seals go because the bearing is going because the pump is worn out. On most cars it's only a couple hour job, I haven't had to do my rover yet, so I can't give any specific suggestions. But as a general rule, pull the radiator, it will make the job easier. Replace all the hoses and the belt, so you won't have to go in again.

There's advice in the archives about replacing a water pump.

I had mine done and it was a couple hundred dollars. Took a couple hours and (silver lining :-)) I got a coolant flush-and-fill out of it!

I was afraid of that. I had the dealer replace the pump July 2002 becuase it was failing, so its been a 1 year 4 months ago with this new pump. Is there any guarentee that's protecting me at this point, or am I hosed.

IF you have a parts warranty that's longer than 1 yr, you should be fine.

Otherwise, pony up for a new one -- it's one of those things you can't do without, after all!

Parts warranty? The part was from the dealer, and it was dealer installed - does that help?

I get the feeling I'm hosed.

My water pump had a one-year warranty on the pump itself, in the event that it was defective (as opposed to damage from a defective installation, which you'd have to take up with the dealer).

I'm not sure though, Porter -- ask a dealer (not yours) whether there's a parts (as opposed to labor) warranty. It's probably not more than a year though, so you're hosed is my guess.

Someone else may read this during the week and have a different opinion...

I called another dealership this morning, and they said that the there's a parts/labor warranty of 1 year or 12,000 miles.

I'm sure my dealership is going to say the same.

So you're screwed.

Sorry, Porter...wish there was better news...you could buy a water pump from Nathan at http://www.discountrovers.com and install it yourself; that'd save you labor costs...

Check the archives. As I recall, it's pretty much a take off / replace deal, although (1) It's probably going to be a bitch to get all the bolts unfrozen (2) I recall advice to make sure all the old pump's gasket is removed -- scrape, chemical, etc. -- before putting on the new gasket and pump (3) There has been discussion about the difficulty in taking off the serpentine belt (4) There has been discussion about the difficulty in putting on the new serpentine belt.
