For all of us with ABS fuses pulled out and brakes that wont lock up, anyone actually removed the ABS pump and swapped in a 'x' that converts it to non-ABS but with more pressure so that the brakes work better than they do now with the ABS fuse pulled?

I will do it eventually. However, my brakes seem to have the same pressure (if you can call it that) with or without ABS (my ABS is functioning flawlessly, I just happend to despise it).

On my short list of things to do. If you have a genuine workshop manual it shows the hydraulic ciruit for both ABS and non-ABS trucks and the conversion is pretty easy.

Your proportioning valve has a blanking plug in one port that would get used for a NON-ABS setup.

Other than that, you'd have to convert the double rear line to a single (easy - blank one port and drill the "T" fitting all the way through) and then do a little new line bending.

If you eliminate the ABS, doesn't that eliminate the ETC? How are the two related, if at all?

Eric,
They are talking about Series 1 Discovery. That doesn't have ETC or HDC. In a Series II, ABS, HDC, and ETC are all linked.

Bill,
when I was looking at it last year I think one could leave the double line in there. I thought there was an extra port on the combination valve. Either that or I was thinking a T off of the valve rather than replumbing. Though I may do it anyway as I think it's "cleaner" to run just one line.

Milan, - you could leave the double rear line, but it would require to also out a TEE in the front half also. Just more fittings to deal with. For me a single rear line would be OK and would not require buying anything else.

Yep - the extra plugged port on the proportioning valve gets used for one of the circuits (can't remember which off hand). The plug you remove from that can be used to plug the extra port on the rear TEE also (damn am I cheap :-) )

Then ebay your pump and ABS sensors and you've made money on the deal!

Hope to get around to it this winter.
