I have a high mileage Discovery with the original windshield intact. It seems that over time the glass has become worn and the visibility is not as good as new. Is there a product the could effectively restore the windshield as I have tried conventional glass cleaners with no improvement. I would hate to change my windshield. Help ! Thanks in advance. |

Bob, Follow a rock truck. Seriously, many insurance companies will cover replacing a windshield that has degraded from wear/sand. Short of replacement, using a glass polishing compound that a craft shop would carry might work but probably will do more harm than good. A friend of mine had hydrofloric acid dammage (it is used for cleaning tunnel tiles) and buffing the windshield took the etching off but messed up the optics. After a couple of calls his insurance replaced the windshield. Steve |

steve can you recommend a glass polishing compound, as I have a problem with my windsreen. A 4 month old DII, take it to a carwash and it comes out with some kind of drip mark down the drivers side, that was 8 months ago. I can't get these marks off, they are esp. bad in light rain. I'm thinking I might be able to polish them out. cheers gtt |

nuts to following a rock truck, just hit it once with a hammer or something and claim you were following a rock truck... |

Teds right just pop it with a hammer. Do it close to a corner on a warm day. The glass should spider and don't worry it won't completely break. Then take down to a Auto Glass shop and have it replaced. Most Auto Glass Shops will even cover your deductable and they take care of contacting the insurance company. Also make sure the Auto Glass shop does not use quick setting adhesive. After the windsheld has cured for several days run it thru a car wash to check for leaks. Don't try polish it yourself. |

www.griotsgarage.com sells glass polish. I would think some sort of power polisher would be encouraged.

Might I add my .02 cents. I would call my insurance company tell them that your windshield is broken and see if there is a deductable or even if they wil replace it. If all is cool on the insurance end then bust the glass. One more thing I would never do this myself just don't want anybody getting stuck with a broken windshield then being told "sorry your not covered for that". |
