I have a 99 series I sd. I'm about to get a lift and some larger tires and have a question about the plastic wheel arch that goes around the fender. Since I will have to do some trimming, how can I remove these large plastic fender arches. Or do I trim those as well? I'd like to remove all of the plastic molding if I could. If anyone is familiar with the 99 sd, the plastic wheel arch is connected to the rest of the plastic trim on the fender. I believe there is no way of just removing the wheel arch by itself. Will the removal of this leave marks? Do you pros recommend doing this? I'm open to any suggestions.
BTW, I'm getting 2" hd OME lift and 235/85' goodrich mt's.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate this website and all of you.

I don't think that you will need to mess with the wheel arch trim at all with that size tire. The only place you will have to trim is the rear portion of the rear fender (see the Tech section on this BBS).

Thanks,

Those 'plastic' arches are not as wimpy as they look. I backed up my D2 into a rock wall (thought I had an inch to spare, was wrong.) The rear drivers side arch took the hit, I felt the truck lurch. It left a nice gouge about 4" long. There is no doubt serious body damage would have been done without the wheel arch present. I filled the gouge with glass reinforced body putty, spray painted flat black, good as new. I'll not do without the arches after this experience. They are far more stout than they look.

Karsten, if they are like the DII's, they're just held on w/ double-sided tape.
