I removed my heads off my 3.9L 94 disco and found and average of three tablespoons of fine carbon in each cylinder. Black carbon also covered the valves and inside of the exhaust ports, what would cause so much carbon?

Is there any cross references for the valve guide seals?

That sounds completely possible, but you are not giving much to go on here. Causes for excess carbon are usually an excessively rich fuel mixture or running an octane rating below what is recommended. Either way it sounds like you are on your way to a complete top-end rebuild so just stick to the specs from here on out and fuhgeddaboutit.

The spark plugs looked like they were burning lean, I was thinking that the cats were plugged with carbon.
