97 D1, not my "every day" vehicle - just a mud toy, installed some SS 32x10.5 tires and see a definate power loss at highway speeds and slight loss off road power. I am planning on installing airlockers front/back and bantering about the idea of changing the diffs gearing from the stock 3.54 to 4.10 at the same time. I know this will give me more crawling power, and it will raise my highway RPM given the same speed with the 3.54's. Questions: 1) what kind of RPM difference will I see? 2) how will it change my highway mileage? 3) would I be better off going to the 4.7 gears instead 'cause I think they're easier/cheaper to get? And 4, the most important, am I going to see a noticable enough difference in on/off road performance to justify shelling out 800 smackers for the gear sets? Sure, I know "if you got the money, honey", but 800 bucks can buy A LOT of beer! :P

Jay

1) 15%
2) Will not change mpg
3) 4.10 is the correct ratio for your tires, and easy to get. 4.1 stronger than 4.7 too.
4) Truck will be much more driveable with correct gear ratio. That's your problem, and that's your solution. You could also get 40 lap dances for $80. It's a tough call.

Jay, I run 35" SSR's and recently went w/ the 4.75's from GBR. All I can say is it's easily one of the best mods I've done. I actually picked up about 2 mpg, since my engine is now operating in a more effecient rpm range. For your tires, the 4.10's would be ideal.

randall is correct.
for that tire size the 4.10 gears are the appropriate size. and unless you're running 35s like greg the 4.75 is to much. yes the 4.10 gears are stronger than the 4.75 gear.
is it worth it?
hell yeah!!!!! every stinkin' penny!!!

Thanks, everyone for the replies. Looks like I'm ordering the 4.10s. Guess the beer & 40 lap dances will have to wait! (MAN! I got my priorities WRONG!)
