97 SE7 112k code 1316 "Misfire Excesse Emissions Fault" Cleared code it has not come back on for 3 days now. The problem is now I have a ticking noise coming from the left side of the engine. Not sure if it is a Bad Valve or leaking exhaust. Anyone with any ideas?? It seems to be louder in the morning when the engine has been sitting all night need some help. What would cause this code.

well look along all of you header and cat...if you see a black area and when the engine is on can you feel air comming out. in the morn you should be louder because you taking colder air and a more powerful deanation...some times you might get cold weather knock...it talks about it in your owners manual... some car companies have a compenstater, that will richen you mix. sometimes they get stuck on... not good for you engine.. LR do not have one... My advise...when cold keep you rpms as low as possible. Misfire are caused by a non-detanating spark plug, bad wires or stuck valves... try a new spark plugs and or wires. reset and hope it doesn't come back

I am also having the same ticking coming from the left side of my engine. I notice it when I start the car and when I accelerate it gets a lot louder. It definetly sounds like an exhaust leak. I replaced my plugs and wires.. still happens..

My 99 has had a ticking problem that has been around for a few months now. Dealer is putting a new short block in it today. This is following new rocker arms in Feb., NPF visit in May, and a new set of lifters last week. If it is still making that noise on Friday I think they are going to come unglued. On my engine they actually found at least 2 sleaves that had slipped. The engine only has 55K mi. and was never over heated in my possesion. From talking with the mechanic I think the most common part replaced is the rocker arm assembly for this problem. The cups that are pressed in the arm move a little then you have the wrong clearence causing the tick sound.

Start the truck first thing in the morning when the motor is cold and feel around the bottom side of the manifold for the exhaust leak. My left one cracked on the bottom and right one cracked on top. Bottom crack was not visible until I pulled the manifold off. Do it fast because the manifold gets hot pretty quick. Good luck-Mark

have someone plug the rear exhaust and see if you can find it. I had the same problem with my Rangie and it was a gasket at the head. gordo

Heres an update it was an exhaust leak. I started the engine and then pushed on the CAT with my foot. Lo and behold the ticking got softer. So I droped the Y pipe from the exhaust manifold looked for cracks and did not find any. I replaced the gaskets between the Y pipe and the manifold. Put it back together and it is purring like a kitten.

Ken they are the pipes that bolt to the side of the engine down where your spark plugs are. Its realy just one unit. You will see where they come together to form one pipe. At that point they are bolted to another pipe the Y pipe. This is where I had my leak. If you are still having problems finding them let me know and I will take some pics.

I just replaced my exhaust gaskets.... The ticking I was experienceing is now gone. It was just a simple fix.
