I'm thinking of switching to 235/85/16's down the road and am wondering how much actual lift is necessary. I'm not looking for a crazy lift or anything like that, just the required amount to fit these tires. I was thinking between an 1" - 1.5".

Thanks in advance for any info.

with removed sway bar(s) - plenty (namely 3-4" suspension or 2 + 1 or 2 suspension + body) to completely eliminate rub.
with sway bars in place and no offroading - you wont need any (i am running them right now without lift, altough springs are on their way).
with sway bars and offroading - 2" will do nicely by the look of things. 1"-1.5" might be not enough.

In either case you looking for some minor trimming.

lift isnt the big issue

the problems come from stuffing the tires.

you will need to trim the body in the front of the rear wheel wells if you intend to fully stuff the tires or the tires will grab the body and roll the aluminum out and create a sharp edge that will cut up your tires.

in the rear of the rear wells you can either move out the panel or trim it...I rolled mine in and the bottom of the rear panel up and have no issues even at full tuck with a CB lift running factory HD rear springs.

Get an OME HD spring set for the front and rear. It cost about $270 from British pacific.
I have 235/85 r16's w/ the HD OME set up and did not trim untill serve articulation (off roading).

As said above: Lifting won't cure rubbing. To avoid rubbing, either cut metal or fit taller axle bumpstops. To regain articulation after fitting taller bumpstop, taller coils (suspension lift) is the way to go).

Matt, are you running factory springs? Also, can you tell me about your experience with the tires slowing you down due to gear ratio. Or did you get new gears? I'm on a limited budget and am in the crossroads about 235/85, 245/75, 265/70. Mt's obviously. I'm on a limited budget and am wondering about keeping factory shocks but just getting new springs for now. The shocks I have seem to be in good shape. I'm also concerned about my disco becoming a snail on the highway as I cannot afford 800$ for new a 4.11 gear.

Everyone's advice is welcome. I don't want to beat a dead horse here but I want to hear your opinions!

Thanks
