I have 8 of these heavy duty D-rings that I want to install in the trunk of my DII around the edges so I can actually tie something down:

I have also purchased one of these Tuffy cargo drawers:

http://www.pbase.com/image/22882075

I was thnking to make a plywood floor and then bolt everything to that, but since my car is going in the shop for a new rear bumper I was thinnking on having them bold them through the body.

Anyone bolt anything through the cargo floor? The drawer will be staying in there permanantly with all my recovery and safety equipment so removing that isn't an issue.

Thanks for any info.

Jamil

Jamil,

If you lift the rug and black pad, you'll see some plugs around the sides. When you pull the plugs, there is a threaded fitting. I think it takes m10 metric fine thread bolts.

This is where I plan on attaching my D-rings. I just wonder why Land Rover did not include the cargo tie down loops if they put the fittings in the floor?

I'm not sure if this applies to the cargo tie down loops, but as I have disassembled parts of my truck I have asked lots of "what is this for?" type questions. I asked because I always thought that I had lost or broken whatever should have or could have been attached to whatever part I found. It was amazing how many things I have come across. Turns out that genuises designed and built our rovers.

They are so spectacularly designed that they have been already been pre-set up for adding every option or accessory you could ever think up - all kinds of things that we will probably never even find out about.

Most of my questions involved little boxes, switches, connections, and other stuff I found (they were not connected to anything) as I was modifiying my electrical system.

I think it is really cool that someone had the foresight to put all that extra stuff in there. I'd just LUV to get my hands on a book titled "This is all the stuff your rover will do that you don't know about". If you ever come across that book, let me know :-)

Whenever I find stuff like the threaded fittings you found it makes my goofy ideas possible, I just chant "Thank you Land Rover!!" :-) :-) :-)

Hey Jamie - that's a bold statement:-) I think mine may have been assembled after an all-nighter at the local pub.

For every one good idea/design - I find two bad ones!

I guess I'll just bold everything through the floor then.

Curry hook is fantastic...I call it the Nalgene bottle holder. For some reason it never falls off even when at crazy angles off road.

Are those cargo tie-down mounting holes in the D1 too? I don't recall seeing anything like that when I yanked my rear carpet and pad out...

Jack,

I know what you mean, I used to have that problem ALOT. I have found that things go much better for me when I surrender and just let my rover win.

We get along much better when I am willing to be flexible and adapt. When I'm lucky, I get to find out the "hows and whys" of my rover. I like it when that happens. Sometimes I wish my rover would talk to me and explain things.

You know, like Mr Ed the talking horse :-)

Jamie,
I'm trying to get mine to tell me why the horn only works when the key is in the "off" position. I have not found that very useful, as not too many people are trying to cut into my lane when I'm parked.

I suspect the relay - will check it out tomorrow. I opened the fuse box under the hood and saw the dreaded LUCAS logo. But the relay is made by Siemens, so there is hope:-)

Joshua,
most of those drawers will take an o/u or sxs with 29" barrels at a diagonal, but of course if you have a waterfowling pump or auto you can always break it down.

Andy,

I have a 97 D1, and the holes are there, just covered by the plugs.

Andrew,

There are a couple of them in the back. Here is a pic of mine before rubber flooring.

Ken,

Are those brackets in your cargo bin attached to anything or do they just sit in those slots?

Alan,
That is a tool box. It just sits in there.

Alan, there are numerous threaded holes you can use in the cargo sidewalls of the D1 if you don't have jumpseats:

Excellent! I don't have jump seats so there should be plenty of options for me. Thanks.
