I recently acquired a ThinkPad A31 and DeLorme Street atlas to run in my truck (a great combo, BTW). Now I want to hook my cell phone to the puter and download email and web stuff. How do I do this - I mean the cell phone/computer interface. I have a nokia and AT&T and thought to just dial up a POP number and start working on line. Is it this easy? ...and what do I need to do this? |

Jerry, Make a visit to your cellular provider. Things are moving and changing so fast in that area, I wouldn't even try to get info via phone call (or web for that matter). Pick someone out who looks and sounds like they are up to speed on current technology. There are 3 different ways I can choose to do the laptop/cellular phone thing in my area. If you have a recent model computer, you should be set up for that - you'd just need the cord that goes from laptop to cell phone. Your cell phone just becomes your modem. The cord is usually cheaper than the other options - but in most cases your "minutes per month" are used up quickly. Usually, there is no time alloted for just being on the web, minutes/charges are calcuated per download time ($$$$$). If you are seriously considering this (and have not done it yet), take your laptop outside and use it -- or better yet, sit in your car in daylight and use it. Do anything on it, it doesn't really matter what you do-- ...just take awhile on it to see how well you can see your screen. In my opinion, much improvement is needed in that area. My eyes start to hurt after awile trying to see detail on the screeen. And, oh yeh, write a "test" letter or document. How are you and the cursor managing? Can you see it? Can you even find it? That drove me crazy. Everyone I know has had the same problem. I try to use mine outside only at night time. Good Luck, Jamie |
