I changed my transfer case fluid over the weekend and upon removing the drain and fill plugs noticed one has a magnet on it, but it was in the top "fill" hole. Shouldn't it be in the bottom drain hole...cause that's where I put it. Second, When replacing the front diff fluid, where is the drain for the swivel balls?, I see a fill plug in the top, or do both swivel balls drain when you drain the main front diff? As you can tell I need to get a shop manual. |

I guess I need to ask questions like "how deep water can I drive through?" or "what kind of stickers can I put on my truck?" or "how big/type tire can I put on?", to get any replies out of you people......are you all armchair mechanics? |

number one yes the magnet goes on the bottom to catch metal shavings and number 2 ...alot of the swivel housing 98 on are filled with a special greese and if you want to change it you will need a air compressor to get it out. if you have an older vehicle there is a filler, level and drain plug they have square-section heads. if you have a newer rover the grease is supposed to be maintenance free ...so they say but alot of people blow it out and change with oil. oh yea and if ya can't figure it out then maybe I will call my mom to change you window washer fluid too, since we are to busy in are chairs. |

Magnet on the bottom hole would make more sense, sure. Second question, you don't have drain plugs for your swivels, because they have grease in them, not oil. Grease stays in better than oil, but it isn't perfect. According to LR it does not need to be changed, but if you belive that I have a bridge and some primo Florida waterfront property for sale. You will need to tear down the front hubs to get all the grease out, but if you don't go through a lot of mud and water, your front swivels will be fine for quite some time. - Axel

John, no need to be a dick to the guy just because he asks a question.
