Hey Everyone,

My 99 Disco 1 with 39,000 miles is really screaming when I stop. So i think it's time to replace brake pads. I, however, have not changed pads in a LR before, and for some reason I don't think it is as easy as I'm used to by just going to NAPA and buying pads or possibly rotors and being done with it after 2 or so hours. Soooooo.... before I begin I wanted to know what is involved with the process. Am I going to have my ABS light stuck on for eternity, make countless trips to get parts, etc.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
-Steven

Nah, it's the same, nothing differant, other than 12 point bolts to remove the brakes form hub.

There is a write up at http://www.expeditionexchange.com/disco2brakes/ on the D2 brakes you might look at.

Steven,

I just went thru the same thing I used the article on Expidition Exchange and it worked well. The first brake pad took about an hour and then the other three took about 15 minutes each and that was with me jacking each wheel up.

So of the advice on EE I did not understand because I had never changed pads before. i didn't know what the hell a piston was or looked like and they sort of assumed you did. I bought a large C-Clamp and a larger pair of plyers as they reccomend and it did the trick.

I would only use genuine (OEM) LR pads. I bought mine at http://www.motorcarsltd.com/. They come with new bolts which is nice.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
