I am planning on taking my Yakima cross bars and bike rack off of my 03 Disco. I want to install an adventure rack.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to purchase?
Is there a vendor who makes a rack almost identical that isn't as expensive? If so, is it as good of quality as LR genuine?
Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Bearmach makes a rack similar to adventure rack goes for $659. at DAP. not as good as genuine
But it doesnt hurt to call different dealers they may have a used one laying around.I was fortunate
to find just that a couple of years ago.

Hill, the rack is still for sale but it is on ebay. I'll still be donating to Dweb when it sales though.

Email me at txbonds@yahoo.com for a link if you want to take a look. I think there are about 22 hours left.

Hill....you can easily mount any thule or yakima accessories to the LR rack. All you need is some old bike inner tube or some rubber to place inside the mounts as the LR bars are slightly smaller.

Here are some photos of thule racks on my LR rack:

But I sold them because it was a pain in the ass to climb on the roof...I kept a step stool in the back for about a month before I gave up. I just got an old thule spare tire carrier off of ebay that works just fine and can also take the ski carrier which I plan to buy.

If so would someone please let me know their experience?

Has anyone gotten an ARB rack?

Thanks

NorthWestParts.com has a knock off adventure rack for around $550. I currently have one and am quite happy w/ it.

Mounting hardware/gutter mounts included are much easier to use than Genuine LR.

Gahill2, i just put a rack on my D1 and it is really cool. It gives me a lot a space to carry stuff and it looks really great. Only complaint is the noise on the highway, feels like i am in a prop plane ( not deafning but certainly irritating ). I started a topic about how to deal with the noise.

Topic is Adventure roof rack noise on highway.

Sorry, just don't know how to link yet from a post.

If you have a day free, $300 bucks, and constructive - you can totally make your own thats made of 3/16"x4" planks of Aluminium. I made my rack, and its about 6' long and about the width of the car. I have tent pole mounts on the rims to be able to pitch a tent on top. And it totally can support people sleeping on top of the car.

Also at least for my bike (Fisher mtb and trek road), the fork width is exactly 4", so I'd remove the skewers and able to mount the bike on the top of the car onto the plank without any additional construction. If someones interested, let me know so i can take some picture (its partiall done, left a few minor details out because of lazyness)

Has anyone had any experiences with any North West Parts products. I think that their knockoff rack looks good. Just wondering if anyone had one or had any input?

Thanks,
Hill

Seems to have a really positive rep. by the guys here.

If I recall correctly the owner, a Dwebber, started the business inspired by the interest on this board.
