When replacing a heater core has anyone ever used something other than the shitty o-rings to seal the connection between the pipes to the core? Some thing like RTV? or better? From what I have heard the O-ring is what typically fails.

Or is there a trick to getting the stock clamps to close up the gap between the pipe and core. I did a search and found nothing on replacing a core. I can't believe I am the only one ever to have had to do this.

Thanks
Christian
