I'm wondering what you guys prefer in gas tank skids when upgrading to aftermarket bumpers. The removal of the tow hitch leaves the tank much more vulnerable, so I want to protect it. Which is best?

Ive been doing a little looking for a gas tank skid myself. The only one I have found in production without being connected to a rear bumper is Rockware's. If anyone knows of any others I love to see. I know a lot of guys make their own, and I am nearing that point.

Addressing your question Rans, my apologies for the hi-jack...

Aedofab ( http://www.aedofab.com )makes a real sweet bumper/skid combo.

Hope that helps.

I have Southdown plates front and rear. They fit great, and take a pounding...highly recommended!
Rovers North has them or Southdown direct..

I don't have the Southdown, but have seen it and talked extensively with the owner and he seemed extremely happy with it. It's well integrated into the reciver hitch assembly, IMHO if you want a stock look then go for the Southdown. They also make 2 versions, steel and aluminum.

I am very happy with mine. It is the genuine LR fuel tank guard. If I remember correctly, it is made by southdown? I was able to keep my receiver hitch. I went with this one after several owners indicated in thread posts that it was one of the best investments they had ever made to their rover.

Here is pic so you can see how it attaches. I have been told that once I knock off my rear bumper that it will be fine with whatever aftermarket rear bumper I change to. I have not investigated that though - I'm hoping that will be a bit further down the road.

Good Luck, Jamie
